Cuthbert Smith Group Inc. provides a wide range of Professional Quantity Surveyor solutions for clients and projects located across Western Canada. We specialize in all aspects of professional quantity surveying and work with both the public and private sectors within the construction industry.

We are currently looking for junior and intermediate Quantity Surveyors for our Edmonton Office.

Responsibilities will include quantity estimating and take-off, project pricing and budgeting, project monitoring and auditing, including undertaking site inspections for projects through-out Western Canada.

We are looking for candidates with excellent written and verbal communication skills, sound knowledge and experience in computer systems including cost estimating software.  Candidates should hold or be working towards attaining PQS standing with the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors or MRICS with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

These are permanent salaried positions with a competitive benefit package.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Construction Manager, the primary function of this role is to provide efficient and accurate quotations for clients.

The range of day-to-day duties involved in this position include:

  • Calculating quantity take-off detailing all the materials and supplies necessary for the contract to achieve specification;
  • Being responsible for the quantity survey, the unit pricing, the general conditions cost managing of the work and the application of overhead;
  • Setting the proposal language or "Terms and Conditions";
  • Assisting the Project Manager in initial sequencing of construction activities and outlining components such as labour, materials, and equipment;
  • Reviewing bid package blueprints and drawings;
  • Preparing tender prices from the architect's or engineer's drawings;
  • Presenting bid package with tender price for clients and revise as needed;
  • Attending pre-bid meetings for clarification; and
  • Perform a variety of tasks as assigned of a similar nature or level.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have completed a Technical Engineering Degree or have an equivalent combination of technical training and experience. Accreditation as a Civil Engineering Technician with a CET designation is preferred.

You are equipped with several years’ experience leading an estimating department and have estimated projects upwards of $10M - $15M in value. You are well connected in the Edmonton Market and subtrades. Knowledge of pre-engineered metal buildings would be a plus.

We are looking for a self-motivated individual who likes a challenge - a hard-working, team player, with strong communication skills, and attention to detail. You will have a strong customer service focus, and be skilled at analysis assessment.
